cyber security

What is Cybersecurity, its types and tips for protection.

Cyber security is the protection of All digital devices that are interconnected. The threat of losing data is very dangerous. Cyber-attacks can destroy, steal, or modify the data on attacked system.

The best way to secure your digital systems from different attacks is to ensure Strong cyber security. A strong cybersecurity strategy can be useful for protection against malicious attacks. It will be a wall against attack.

 Why cybersecurity is important?

With growing internet users, devices and interconnected systems, the scale of cyber threats has also increased. Cybersecurity is important to protect all types of data from stealing and damage. It secures data from cyber-attacks and viruses.

Types of Cybersecurity Threats:

Threats faced by cybersecurity are several types

  1. Cybercrime: It is a kind of crime that includes a computer, a networked device, or a network. Cybercrime is carried out for financial gain or to cause disruption.
  2. Cyber-Attack: It is used for stealing data or politically engineered information gathering.

Malware: Malware is malicious software. It is the most common cyber malicious threat. It is software that attackers have developed to attack users’ computers. Malware spreads via emails or any downloadable file/Link. Trojan, spyware, viruses, and worms are malware.

Virus: A virus is a malicious program when executed it replicates itself by changing other programs.

Spyware: A spyware is a program that saves users history, what the user does, so the hackers can use this information.

Ransomware: It is a kind of malware software, which locks users data, the hackers/ attackers take money to unlock or give access to files.

Adware: It is an Advertising software that is used to spread malicious files.

Social Engineering: Social engineering is a trick to deceive people and get their confidential information to access their accounts.

Phishing: It is a technique to attack users with social engineering attacks. Users receive calls, messages, or emails to give their information in a professional way.

Man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks: It is a type of Cybersecurity Attack that allows attackers to eavesdrop on the communication among targets. This attack takes place between two individuals to steal data. Let’s say an unsecured Wi-Fi system, an attacker can easily access data being passed from users’ devices and Wi-Fi systems.

Denial of Service attack (DoS): It is a cybersecurity attack that is used to shut down a machine/ network and making it difficult to access its intended users. Hackers usually use this kind of attack on high profile organizations like media companies, central banks, trade organizations and the government. Some examples of Denial of service attacks are SYN flooding, DNS Amplification and UDP flooding.

Cyber threats

Dridex malware: It is a trojan. It captures passwords and banking information. It has caused huge losses to a large number of people; millions have been stolen.

Romance scams: It is a scam that happens on dating sites and chat apps. Perpetrators take advantage by making them fall into love and then asking for confidential information.

Tips for cybersecurity – to protect yourself from cyber-attacks.

  • Use Strong Passwords, that are very difficult to guess. Use !@# for making it difficult to guess.
  • Never use an unsecured Wireless network, it makes your device vulnerable.
  • Keep your system up to date. Use the latest software and never use cracker or modified software.
  • Use a good Antivirus Software/ windows defender.
